Lower Cabinets

Check it out people -- Luis and the guys moved most of the lower cabinets in Friday. He has installed about half of them, but still has to move the ones in that will support the desk surface and attach the rest of them to the wall. That should be done in the next couple of days. Then the guys can come in and measure for the countertop and Luis can start installing the flooring. Eirik also got the sink and faucet and the range hood was delivered.

And Now for Some Color

The guys painted today - primer in the morning and color in the afternoon. It does look at little dark as it is now, probably because the lighting in really weak and taking the photos in the dead of night doesn't really help either.

We hadn't originally planned to paint the bathroom and mudroom, but there was a little miscommunication between the contractor and the paint crew, so we got the additional paint work at no extra charge. Fine with us - they needed a freshen-up anyhow.

Move the Register

In the old breakfast nook/new desk area, we're having to move an air register since one of the cabinet bases that will support the desk surface would have covered it up if we left it where it was.

Old location on the left, new on the right.

Helpful board to prevent clumsys like me from stepping in a hole and breaking their ankles.
Extending the vent ductwork to match up with the new register location.

Gas Line Work

We're putting in a gas stove and we figured while we had things opened up, we thought we'd go ahead and add a gas log fireplace insert into our traditional wood-burning fireplace. Here's what they've done so far.

The black pipe is the existing gas line; the yellow branch off to the left is for the fireplace and the branch off to the right will connect to the stove.

More of the pipe going to the fireplace. This is in the basement, so the fireplace will be right above this.

Prep for Paint

Now that the electrical inspection is done, the guys have been hard at work putting the walls back together, patching up the holes and sanding things down. Luis is planning on painting later this coming week, so it should be much more colorful by the weekend.

Action shot =)

Inset Light Rail

Here's a cool feature that Eirik saw in a friend's kitchen that was also designed by our designer. The upper cabinets have this inset light rail and hidden under there will be Xenon lighting, as well as some outlets and switches for the lights and disposal. It will look nice and neat and won't interrupt the tile backsplash that we will be installing.

Inspection

Oh, there's that lynch pin we've been looking for. The electrical inspection was completed and approved today, so the guys can now close up the walls and prep for paint. The base cabinets should be in in a week and we are about two weeks from doing the floor. So appliances should be installed in about two and a half weeks (Eirik is very excited about this bit). After the appliances is the counter top install, sink and faucet and then it's just finishing touches.

Upper Cabinets

Now we're talking - all the upper cabinets are now in place and ready for the electricians to install the outlets and light switches.

The fridge will go right in here.

The microwave will pop in here.

No More Holes

Among other things today, Luis and Alex patched up most of the holes made when they did the recessed lighting. Ahhh. You can also see where the wall used to be. Soon, you won't even be able to tell there used to be a wall there.

Here and There

This past week has been filled with some of those small jobs that weren't especially visible but necessary just the same. One of those jobs was removing the header from the old pantry.

Cabinets will go here. Level is good. And yes, if you zoom in super-close, it is actually very level.

This is the vent pipe from the old stove. The new stove will be in a different location and has different venting requirements, so we can't re-use this one.
