Then came the fireplace, so Chris finished installing the trim pieces and got that buttoned up. The photo doesn't quite capture the crackling fire feeling, but it is quite lovely and cozy in there when it's on.

I Have Made Fire!
First up was finishing the gas-related jobs. Chris the gas guy finished the hook-up for the stove and we got that inspected and approved so we could move the stove into place and get that working. As you can see, it is huge - two broiler pans side by side.

Fireplace
Chris the gas guy came in yesterday and did some more work, getting most of the fireplace installed. He got up on the roof and slid the air conduit and vent conduit down into the chimney, and then got the gas log unit situated in the fireplace. He just has to button everything up now and get the trim pieces and doors on. We do have to wait until it is inspected before we're allowed to use it though.

The thing in the package is a carbon monoxide detector. You can also see the red gas valve through the crack there. The gauge there is for pressure testing.
These are the old doors and the old grate.

Gas Line Work
We're putting in a gas stove and we figured while we had things opened up, we thought we'd go ahead and add a gas log fireplace insert into our traditional wood-burning fireplace. Here's what they've done so far.
The black pipe is the existing gas line; the yellow branch off to the left is for the fireplace and the branch off to the right will connect to the stove.

More of the pipe going to the fireplace. This is in the basement, so the fireplace will be right above this.
