Busy Weekend

Lots and lots got done this weekend - it has been a crazy house. The dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave got moved back inside.

Some cabinet crown molding also got installed.

More electrical work for the range, miscellaneous outlets and switches.

They also ran the water line for the fridge.

We're also trying find a paint color to match the counter for these plastic grommets.

Floor - Part 1

Luis was here bright and early at 6:30am to start putting down the flooring. The part that's in so far looks awesome. Here is a sample - it's a laminate that's supposed to look like slate. This first picture is the actual color, some of the other photos are reddish.

Just about ready for the fridge.

Raul also came and finished the electric work for the stove.

This part's not quite done yet.

Not a new feature - they just pulled the doors off to get the floor in easier. This one's just hanging out here for a few days.

Let There Be Light!

Raul came today and got a lot of work done: switches, dimmers, outlets, fixtures, undercabinet lights. Looking good!

Light Fixtures

We love these light fixtures. We got three sconces (not scones ;) and two pendants. The shades are made of onxy/soapstone and the stanchions are just a silvery metal. They are on dimmers too, so we can make them glow and show the grain of the stone or make them brighter.

Outlets & Switches

Lots and lots of electrical work done today. Here's a closeup of some of the outlets and switches.

Garbage disposal switch, undercabinet light switches and outlet box. The strip on the front is one of the undercabinet lights.

Inspection

Oh, there's that lynch pin we've been looking for. The electrical inspection was completed and approved today, so the guys can now close up the walls and prep for paint. The base cabinets should be in in a week and we are about two weeks from doing the floor. So appliances should be installed in about two and a half weeks (Eirik is very excited about this bit). After the appliances is the counter top install, sink and faucet and then it's just finishing touches.

Little Bits

The guys were only here for a few hours this afternoon and got a couple of little things done.
Several of the outlets and switches will be mounted under the cabinets, so they got started running the wires for that on a couple of the upper cabinets in the kitchen.

They also punched a wire through into the living room for the thermostat since the wall where it used to live is gone. I think we're going to ask them to move this a little.

New Design Feature?

No, not a new modern art design feature - just wire fish holes so that Raul could get wire from the switches to the fixtures.

This is the dining room wall. The blue circles are where the new sconces will go.

Dining room recessed lights.

Kitchen recessed lights. The blue guy is where one of the pendant lights will go.

Old Lighting Fixtures

Here are the old kitchen and dining room lighting fixtures. Won't be needing those anymore.

After Cleanup

The guys did a bang-up job cleaning up, so you can see the new elements a little better here.

Outlets

The microwave will be located along this wall. The fridge used to be here, so we're going to re-use that outlet.

The guys also relocated the wiring Eirik did for internet, etc. to this wall because the wall it used to be on no longer exists.

They also moved the other wiring box that used to be in the cabinet on kitchen side. You can see it now down there under the window. There's also going to be a scone on the wall to the right of the window. The blue box down there is where we can plug in all our gadgets =)

It's handy to be able to plug things like mixers in when you're working at an island - that's what these yellow wires are for.

Lots 'O Electrical

Raul spent lots of time today getting new wire run, recessed lighting installed, outlets moved and fixtures located. The hanging eyeball lights are just temporary.

Duck and Cover!

At the height of the madness today, it looked like the kitchen had exploded. Raul the electrician and his helper were hard at work today, installing all sorts of things and Luis and Alejandro worked with odd jobs and installing some of the top cabinets. More details on what they actually did later...
